Rain rain, go away .. no wait!
A miraculous thing happened a few weeks ago. We were on holiday in Tasmania when it happened, travelling around the countryside on Karly’s-Food-&-Booze-Tour-2010 (which I’ll tell you all about another time). Its something we’ve been waiting many months for and it happened again this past weekend. Continue reading »
Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – 15 Feb 2010
This month I’m following Carol from May Dreams Gardens who on the 15th of each month posts photos of what’s blooming in her garden for “Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day”. Here’s a collage of what’s flowering here today:

top: Lagerstromia Indica “Lipan”, Nepeta Fasenii “Six Hills Giant”, unk David Austin rose, Rosa Floribunda “Friesia” (“Sunsprite”);
2nd row: Zinnias (mixed) x 2, Salvia “Black & Blue”, Salvia buchananii;
3rd row: Rosa Floribunda “Burgundy Iceberg”, Oriental Lillium “Optimist”, Rosa Floribunda “Europeana”, mint;
4th row: unknown tree, sweet basil, fuschia, tomato flowers
Great idea Carol!
My Garden – Transformation (Pt 1)
The Front Yard
When I first moved in, the garden was neatly laid out with concrete edging but was terribly ugly. An enormous conifer dominated my front yard and the garden bed in the middle had nothing but three overgrown shrubs in it that excluded any possibility of other plants. I had been in the house less than a week when the tree surgeons came around to remove that conifer. Gutting the rest of the garden beds in the front took rather more time and bribery of some good friends.
Sometimes You Need Your Own Garden ..
I bought my house 5 years ago predominantly because I struggled not having a garden of my own. I used to rent a little unit in a really great area that I just managed to afford because it was run down and had no outdoor space of its own. The woman across the hall had a pot plant in the entrance just outside my door, so I figured that a few little pot plants must be ok and would probably keep me happy.
